FAQ

What services do you offer?

I offer individual therapy sessions online and in person for the state of Michigan. I additionally offer initial consultations for getting started and host a community group once a month. Information for the group can be found Here.

How do I get started?

You can reach out by filling out the contact form found Here. You can also email me at natalie@streamline-psychotherapy.com, or call at 616-227-0815. After reaching out, I’ll be in touch to coordinate a time to schedule a consultation.

What is an initial Consultation Like?

Consultations provide an opportunity to explore a little bit of what brings you to therapy, have any questions answered, and determine if you and I are a good fit. These last 15-20 minutes and are free.

What is the first full session like?

The first session, or intake session, reviews assigned paperwork and forms related to starting the therapy process, like insurance forms, HIPAA forms, etc. Forms are required to be filled out before this session. Overall, it is akin to the consultation, but more in depth. It allows me to get a more rounded picture of your life, for us to review goals and expectations, and continue exploring what the therapy process is like. Things like your history, current struggles, past experiences, family, social life, and your interests are covered. It also serves to start getting comfortable with each other.

What is an average session like?

After the intake session, further sessions will be more “standard”. I don’t adhere to a strict session format, but some things that might be in an average session are reviewing the prior week, reviewing prior sessions and progress, reviewing homework assignments (when/if applicable), identifying what you would like to use the space for that day, identifying skills to utilize and try, education on relevant psychology principles, and support and validation for difficulties.

What is Natalie’s Availability?

My business hours are Monday-Thursday, 10am-7pm, typically seeing clients from 11am-6 or 7pm.

What approaches does Natalie use?

I use an eclectic approach, meaning I pull from different types of therapy approaches depending on client needs, what fits your concern well, and what works for you. I generally pull from Internal Family Systems (IFS/ “parts” work), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Client-Centered, Psychodynamic, Attachment, Feminist, and some CBT/DBT methods. More can be found on each on my about page Here.

How long do I have to attend therapy?

Length in therapy depends on your goals and what your needs are. Some folx see me for specific issues in their lives that are more short term, such as a break up, and some see me for more longer term concerns, such as ongoing support through the years. Ultimately, you may terminate therapy at any time.

How often will we meet?

Again, this can depend on your goals and desires for therapy. I offer weekly and biweekly sessions. I prefer to start on a weekly basis, as that can help us to get to know one another more quickly. After sufficient progress, sessions can then move to biweekly when it feels right. However, I’m also understanding of certain limitations to this process, such as cost or scheduling limitations.

What is Natalie’s cancellation policy?

I ask that if cancelling, please do so at least 24 hours in advance. This is in consideration of my time/schedule, but also other clients who may need the time. I do give one grace appointment in the case of a late cancel or no call no show, but after that is used, I charge $100 per missed session. This amount is not billable to insurance companies. This policy is not applied towards uncontrollable circumstances, such as a family emergency, weather event, or illness. If missing appointments becomes a regular pattern, we may visit reasons why sessions are being missed and work together to address these concerns. If it continues to be a concern after addressing in therapy, I may terminate the relationship.

What if I don’t think therapy is helping?

PLEASE talk to me if this is a concern! Therapy is for you, not for me. I want to make sure I’m able to offer you the experience you are looking for, or if I cannot, connect you to someone who can. I will not be offended if, at the end of the day, if I am not a good fit for you; that happens!

Does Natalie write letters for gender affirming care/other health services?

Absolutely I do! Though, I only write them for current clients so I can perform the needed assessment for the letter. If you are a current client needing a letter, I do not charge extra for writing these letters. I write gender affirming care letters based on the WPATH standard of care.

Does Natalie accept insurance?

Yup! I am in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Care Network, Priority Health, and Aetna. If you do not have one of these insurance carriers, there are other options such as Out of Network (OON) benefits or my sliding scale (See below.)

What are out-of-network (OON) benefits?

Out-of-Network (OON) benefits are certain aspects of insurance policies that pay for providers or services that are not in-network of that insurance. This can vary broadly, but submitting claims this way is another way to get services covered. Most commonly, this takes the form of reimbursing you for a portion of an amount you paid upfront for services. For example, if you paid $100 for an out-of-network service and your insurance reimburses 80% for out-of-network services, they would pay you back $80. This is not something I can check for you, so check with your insurance provider if you are qualified for these benefits. Upon request from insurance companies for reimbursement, I can provide a billing statement (called a Superbill) you can submit with your claim.

What is a sliding scale?

A sliding scale is a range of lowered therapy rates offered to make therapy more affordable for individuals not wanting/able to use insurance. My scale is annual income based to determine need. You can also use OON benefits on top of this.

What is Natalie’s sliding scale?

My scale is the following:

  • Under $25,000/year, session rate is $100

  • $25,000-$40,000/year, session rate is $110

  • $40,000-$60,000/year, session rate is $120

  • $60,000-$80,000/year, session rate is $130

  • $80,000-$100,000/year, session rate is $140

  • $100,000+/year, session rate is $150

*Spots for each tier are limited/based an availability. Feel free to ask what is available at the moment!

*This scale is also based off of the payers income, not client income. If someone is paying for sessions for you, their income is the one considered.

*I do not ask for proof of income, but this comes with the expectation of honesty. I offer reduced rates to help affordability, and dishonesty could bar someone else from treatment.

How Do I make payments?

Payments are taken virtually through a secure client portal. I accept debit, credit, or HSA cards.

What if Someone Else is paying for sessions?

If using someone else’s payment method, I will ask for express consent to interact with this person regarding billing information only.
